GameAnalytics 2026: free tier, pricing, alternatives
By Mike Dalton ·
GameAnalytics is an analytics platform built for games, with SDKs for most engines and a free plan that has no limit on monthly active users. This guide covers what each plan costs, what the free plan includes, how its events work, the data and event limits to check before you rely on it, and the alternatives for the cases it does not cover.
Facts and prices were checked against GameAnalytics' pricing page and documentation in October 2026.
What is GameAnalytics?
GameAnalytics collects events from your game and turns them into dashboards for engagement, retention, progression, monetization, and ad revenue. The company was founded in Copenhagen in 2011 and has been owned by Mobvista since 2016. Its products are grouped into an IQ Suite
:
- AnalyticsIQ for dashboards, Explore, funnels, cohorts, and realtime data.
- SegmentIQ for A/B testing, remote configs, and player segments.
- PipelineIQ for raw data export, a managed data warehouse, and API access.
It has SDKs for Unity, Unreal, Godot, Roblox, GameMaker, Defold, Construct, Cocos2D, Flutter, iOS, Android, and Meta Quest, plus open source JavaScript, C++, and C# SDKs and a REST collection API.
How much does GameAnalytics cost?
| Plan | Price | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0, no MAU limit | Dashboards, custom dashboards, Explore, funnels, cohorts, A/B testing, remote configs, and the AI Agent with a small daily allowance |
| AnalyticsIQ Pro | $49/mo, with a 14-day trial | Hourly data, Distributions, scheduled reports, custom retention triggers, a portfolio view of up to 20 games, and performance monitoring |
| PipelineIQ | From $499/mo, quote from sales | Raw data export to your own AWS or Google Cloud bucket, a managed BigQuery warehouse, the Metrics API, the MCP server, and custom event fields |
Two details affect the bill:
- The free plan has no MAU limit. You can run a large game on it, as long as the free plan's reports and data retention cover what you need.
- Raw data costs extra. Export, the warehouse, and SQL access through BigQuery all come with PipelineIQ. Queries in the managed warehouse are billed on top, at $6.25 per TiB.
GameAnalytics also runs a startup program for venture-backed studios with 3 free months of PipelineIQ Pro, then 50% off.
The GameAnalytics dashboard
GameAnalytics has predefined dashboards for Overview, Engagement, Progression, Monetization, Ad activity, Ad impressions, Resources, and Health. You can build custom dashboards from Explore widgets, and Explore compares up to three queries side by side with CSV export.
The Realtime page on the free plan covers the last 24 hours, and its Live Events stream shows the last 50 events, which usually arrive within 30 seconds. Pro extends Realtime to the last 15 days.
The built-in reports cover the standard free-to-play metrics. Anything specific to your game, such as win rate by character or which cards appear in winning decks, comes from your own design events, and you build those dashboards yourself.
How GameAnalytics events work
GameAnalytics has fixed event types, each with its own format:
- Business: in-app purchases, with currency, amount, and item.
- Resource: virtual currency earned (source) or spent (sink).
- Progression: a level or stage that starts, fails, or completes, with up to three levels of hierarchy, such as
world01:stage02:level03. - Design: custom events, with an ID of up to five parts separated by colons and an optional number value, such as
match:win:knightwith a value of 1. - Ad and Error: ad actions and error messages.
The SDKs also send session, performance, and impression events automatically.
Design events are how you track anything the other types do not cover, but the ID is the only structure they have. A match with a character, a map, a mode, and a result has to be packed into one colon-separated ID, and each combination counts as a separate ID.
On top of the event ID, every event can carry up to three custom dimensions (custom_01 to custom_03), with a fixed list of values for each. The SDKs allow 20 values per dimension. Custom event fields, up to 50 key-value pairs per event, are not shown in the dashboards or the Metrics API: you can only read them in the Export and the warehouse, which are part of PipelineIQ.
Limits to know before you choose GameAnalytics
- Detailed event data is kept for 3 months. In the dashboards, design and progression events are no longer available after 3 months. After 12 months, purchase events keep only their total count and revenue, and resource events only their totals. The Metrics API follows the same rules. The documentation recommends PipelineIQ
if you need to store historical data
, and the warehouse fills only from the day you buy it. - Event volume is capped. Each active player can send 500 events a day. Each game can have 15,000 distinct design event IDs, 8,000 progression IDs, and 4,000 resource IDs a day. IDs over the limit are recorded as
null
, so the dashboards and Metrics API undercount them, while Export and the warehouse keep the full event. - No console SDK is listed. The SDK list covers engines, mobile, desktop, web, and Meta Quest, but no PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch SDK.
- Some features are Pro only. Hourly data, Distributions, scheduled reports, and custom retention triggers need AnalyticsIQ Pro.
- AI access is limited on lower plans. The AI Agent answers 3 messages per user and 6 per organization a day on the free plan. The MCP server, which lets AI tools like Claude read your data, needs PipelineIQ Pro or a separate MCP Access add-on.
When GameAnalytics is a good fit
GameAnalytics is a reasonable default when:
- Your game is free-to-play on mobile, PC, or web, and its main questions are about retention, progression, and monetization.
- You want a free plan that does not end when the game grows.
- The last 3 months of detailed data is enough for your decisions, or you plan to pay for PipelineIQ to keep the history.
- Your engine has a GameAnalytics SDK.
GameAnalytics alternatives
The full comparison of game analytics tools has pricing and engine support for each of these. To run your own pipeline instead, see game analytics infrastructure: build or buy.
- Unity Analytics is free up to 50,000 MAU and keeps raw events for 13 months. It is the default for Unity games that already use Unity Gaming Services. Read Unity Analytics pricing and alternatives for the limits.
- Google Analytics for Firebase is free and strong for mobile games, with BigQuery export. It has no console or Unreal SDK.
- devtodev is free up to 25,000 MAU and includes raw data export and SQL access from its first paid plan.
- Azure PlayFab is the option with console SDKs: Xbox, with PlayStation and Switch support available on approval. It is a full game backend, so it fits best if you need one anyway.
- Game Stats AI is built for competitive and match-based games. A match is one record with its own attributes, such as character, map, mode, and result, so you do not have to pack them into an event ID. Reports cover win rate by character, win rate by map, deck archetypes, achievements, and progression, split by game version. Events go to a REST API from your game or server, and every plan, including the free plan with 1,000 tracked records a month, includes the MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT, and other AI tools. Game Stats AI can run alongside GameAnalytics.
Frequently asked questions
Is GameAnalytics free?
Yes. The free plan has no limit on monthly active users and includes the dashboards, custom dashboards, Explore, funnels, cohorts, A/B testing, and remote configs. AnalyticsIQ Pro costs $49 a month, and PipelineIQ, which adds raw data export and a data warehouse, starts at $499 a month.
What does the free version of GameAnalytics leave out?
Hourly data, Distributions, scheduled reports, and custom retention triggers need AnalyticsIQ Pro. Raw data export, the BigQuery warehouse, the Metrics API, the MCP server, and custom event fields need PipelineIQ. Realtime data on the free plan covers the last 24 hours.
How long does GameAnalytics keep data?
In the dashboards, design and progression events are available for 3 months. Purchase events are available in full for 12 months, and after that only their count and revenue remain. Resource events lose their item filters after 3 months and keep only totals after 12. To keep the full history, you need PipelineIQ, which exports raw events to your own storage.
How do custom events work in GameAnalytics?
Custom events are design events. Each one has an ID of up to five parts separated by colons, such as match:win:knight, and an optional number value. You build the dashboards for them yourself in Explore. Each game can have up to 15,000 distinct design event IDs a day.
Does GameAnalytics have an MCP server?
Yes. It is hosted, read-only, and works with Claude, Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor. It requires PipelineIQ Pro or a separate MCP Access add-on. Game Stats AI includes its MCP server on every plan, including the free plan.
Does GameAnalytics work on consoles?
GameAnalytics does not list a PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch SDK. If you ship on console, check Azure PlayFab, or a tool with a REST API that you call from your game or server.
